Gendai Battōjutsu, Kenjutsu, and Aikijutsu
Welcome to the official website of Ishiyama-ryū ("Stone Mountain Style"), which provides classes in contemporary Japanese sword arts (battōjutsu and kenjutsu) serving Seattle, and the Washington DC Metro Area (including Maryland and Northern Virginia). Aikijutsu is currently offered in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX.
Ishiyama-ryū is a unique expression of Japanese swordsmanship and empty hand techniques that draw upon classical Japanese martial arts, modern physics, biomechanics, and geometry to create a powerful and elegant artform.

11/15/2012: McCartney Sensei is offering group and private aikijutsu lessons in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area. Training times and locations can be found here.
Seattle Classes Begin December 9th, 2012

9/7/2012: ishiyamaryu.com is in the process of being revamped to offer a structured online training option in aikijutsu, chi kung (qigong) breathing, and eventually Ishiyama-ryū swordsmanship lead by Russell McCartney Sensei. Additional details will be available in the coming weeks.
山陰の剣 (Yamakage no Ken - "The Mountain Shadow Sword")
2/8/2012: After nearly 11 months, the custom made Howard Clark katana has arrived. The blade geometry is based upon a 14th century nihonto made by Go Yoshihiro, a student of Masamune, and considered one of the greatest smiths to have ever lived. The blade is forged from modern L6 steel, while the tsuka and koshirae were assembled by Fred Lohman.
