Welcome to the official website of the Northern Virginia branch of Ishiyama Ryu ("Stone Mountain Style"), which has provided classes in contemporary Japanese sword arts (including battōjutsu and kenjutsu) serving the DC, Maryland, and Virginia areas since 2008. Ishiyama Ryu is a unique expression of Japanese swordsmanship that draws upon classical Japansese martial arts, modern physics, biomechanics, and geometry to create a powerful and elegant artform.

2/8/2012: After nearly 11 months, the custom made Howard Clark katana has arrived. The blade geometry is based upon a 14th century nihonto made by Go Yoshihiro, a student of Masamune, and considered one of the greatest smiths to have ever lived. The blade is forged from modern L6 steel, while the tsuka and koshirae were assembled by Fred Lohman.
