This ability empowers us. The power is to be used only in positive ways to benefit society and social circumstances.
Annei Chitsujo - peace and order in all we do.
Mamoru - to defend, protect, keep, observe, obey, abide by, stick by, and be true to the teacher, the school, and its members.
The katana is an instrument of great beauty, as well as a weapon in striking down oppressors, thereby giving life to those who are oppressed. Because training leads to the use of real swords, this art form requires most sincere training. The powers of focus and concentration must be developed to the fullest to maintain safety. It is a universal strategy whose principles are timeless.
Anzen dai ichi - Safety first. This thought must be with us always in sword class, and with our training partners in battÅjutsu, as well as outside the school in our daily lives. As focus and concentration improve, we are placed more closely to our inner selves. This harmony of mind and body expands to harmony with and awareness of our environment.
